Blending the improvisational spirit of jazz with the infectious rhythms of Afro-Cuban music, Mejadra brings a fresh and energetic sound to JazzConnect’s opening night program.

Led by percussionist Imogen Thomson and pianist Austin Salisbury, the newly formed group draws inspiration from artists including Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Lionel Loueke and Pedrito Martinez. Joined by Alex Reid (drums), Jeremy Thomson (guitar) and Alistair Peel (bass), Mejadra combines intricate harmonies, dynamic improvisation and deep groove-driven rhythms.

Expect an evening of original music and spirited musical interplay as these emerging musicians explore the space between contemporary jazz and Afro-Cuban traditions.
